2015 Telstra Store Albany Junior Summer Series - Event 1

This first event of the series was run in sunny conditions on Nanarup Beach last Sat (14th Dec.). We had a great turn out of juniors who were greeted with clean conditions and some nice spilling peelers, perfect for all the younger groms still feeling their way in the surf. I must admit when I drove on to the beach I thought we'd have a struggle for waves but a short drive further up had us camped on a great little bank.

There some good rivalries starting to develop in the club, particularly in the under 16 boys and girls and it's great to see how much they have improved since year's summers series. These guys are inspiring each other to improve all the time and congrats must go to Evie and Jacob who ended up winning those divisions. Competition was pretty close though and the others weren't very far behind. The under 14 boys was won by Seth Leo (one of many new junior faces we saw on the beach, so great to have you along Seth). Pembo took out the under 14 girls and well done to Jack Kuret (another new shredder) who won the under 12 boys.

In this event we saw the introduction of the Rookie division which was a division for the kids who want to get involved but aren't too interested, or ready for competition. We had a great turn out for this and it was wicked to the the smiles on their faces when they took to the water. I saw little Emma Walker stand up for the first time on her first ever attempt at surfing so I am guessing there'll be something new to add to the christmase list this year. The other kids were getting tips from our club coaches and hopefully all go away with something new they can work on to help them feel the same stoke we all do when we get in the water.

A big thanks must go out to Lachy Ross and Emi Campbell for giving up part of their weekend to come along and help out. We really appreciate having you guys there to help and inspire all the groms in our club. The girls in the kitchen did an awasome job once again so thanks again keeping us fuelled up and thanks to all you kids who showed up. One thing we do love is to see new faces turning up and to those kids and parents, welcome and we hope to see you again in the next event.
